White Trash Snack Mix

The holidays are getting closer (EEK) so it's time to start thinking about inexpensive gifts for the people that you just want to share a special "happy" with.  This delicious, edible gift takes very little time to make and will delight anyone with a sweet tooth.

White Trash Snack Mix (go ahead and giggle) combines sweet (M&Ms, almond bark), salty  (pretzels, salted peanuts) and crunchy (Chex cereal).  You just melt the white almond bark and mix it all together.  Seriously, ANYBODY could do this.  You could mix in all kinds of goodies.  Right now I'm thinking about how good peanut butter chips would be... drool.

It keeps well stored in an airtight container in the fridge.  You could add this mix to a gift basket with hot chocolate, mugs, etc... and give it to a favorite teacher, neighbor or friend.

My only suggestion is that you resist the urge to make this whole recipe for yourself.  Lol!  You'll be much happier if you make it to SHARE.  Your friends will be glad too.

Recipe
6 c Rice Chex or Crispix Cereal
2 c salted peanuts
1 lb M & Ms
4 c pretzels (holiday shaped ones would be cute)
1 1/2 lb white almond bark

Lay 2 dishtowels on your counter and cover with waxed paper.  Place all ingredients except bark in a large bowl.  Melt bark according to the package directions and pour over cereal mixture.  Toss to coat and pour on to waxed paper and allow to cool.  Store tightly covered in fridge.

  2. OH! That seems like it would be a good thing to make for Christmas presents. Does it keep well?

  3. Thanks Crystal!

Kelly- it keeps well in an airtight container in the fridge. That seems to keep out moisture, allowing the cereal to stay crisp.

  4. We make this every year but I've never had a name for it until now. Love it! We've always just called it, "Candy Trail Mix." "White Trash Snack Mix" has a much better ring to it! :)
