This is my version of one of my favorite pizzeria menu items, the Italian sub. It has layers of ham, salami, pepperoni, cheese, Italian dressing and veggies on a loaf of chewy ciabatta bread. It's quick enough for a weeknight meal, but special enough that you could serve it at your next tailgating party!
Recipe
1 14 oz loaf of ciabatta bread
butter (optional)
8 oz deli smoked ham
4 oz genoa salami
4 oz pepperoni
4 slices provolone cheese
1/4 - 1/2 thinly sliced onion
Light Italian dressing
1 tomato, sliced
shredded lettuce
Other optional toppings- pepperocini peppers, olives, bell peppers, mushrooms, etc...
- Slice bread horizontally into 2 pieces. Lightly butter the cut side of each piece and dust with garlic powder if desired. Place under a 450 degree broiler for 2-3 or until lightly browned. Watch carefully.
- Remove from oven and set oven to 400 degrees (baking temp). Layer meat, onion and cheese on one piece of bread. Drizzle Italian dressing over the other piece. Return to the oven and bake 8-10 minutes or until heated through. Add tomatoes and lettuce and slice into 4-5 pieces.
